OREANDA-NEWS. March 9, 2010. The Board of Directors of Enel OGK-5 approved the investment project "Reconstruction of 300 Mw unit No. 5" at Reftinskaya GRES.

The target of the reconstruction is to substitute old equipment, to extend the lifetime of the unit for more than 35 yeas, to increase reliability and to mitigate environmental impact. This is the first project of large reconstruction of such generating capacities in the Russian power sector.

The following works will be performed during the reconstruction:

·         Replacement of the old 300 MW Steam turbine with a new 325 MW steam turbine;

·         Replacement of turbo-generator and refurbishment of excitation system;

·         Refurbishment of the boiler, main steam piping, high pressure pre-heater and feed water pumps, 6 kV switchboards;

·         Implementation of full-scale APCS (automated process control system) of the power unit;

·         Replacement the electrostatic precipitators with new bag filters.

The reconstruction will take 15 months and the refurbished unit is expected to resume operation within year end 2011.

The reconstruction of Unit no. 5 is the first project of a major revamping programme for Reftinskaya GRES, the key production asset of Enel OGK-5, which generated more than half of the company’s total profit in 2009.
