OREANDA-NEWS. March 10, 2010. Construction of the next dry cargo ship of Karelia series to be launched during the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the republic in June is nearing completion in Petrozavodsk at Onego Shipyard.

As the SPB-TASS correspondent was told in the administration, the new vessel meets all European commercial and port requirements accepted for transportations between ports of the European Union. Its length makes 85 meters, gross tonnage makes up to 3 thousand tons of one cargo hold and the maximum possible displacement for such ships makes about 4,5 thousand tons.

The dry cargo ship will transport containers of international standard, as well as metal, grain, timber, coal, bulked and heavy-weight cargoes. The new ship has unlimited navigation area. The high ice category allows it to work in the Baltic and White Seas in winter. Its hull configuration, icebreaking capability and hull strength, capacity of the main engine correspond to new requirements of the Finnish-Swedish ice trail navigation procedures completely.
