OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2010. Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan will definitely launch a single currency of the Customs Union, said the Union State Secretary Pavel Borodin. “We will launch a single currency for sure. I believe it will happen not only in the Union State, but also in the entire post-Soviet area,” said Borodin.

Earlier, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said that Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus might set up a currency union.

Shuvalov said it was possible new members could join the customs union. Shuvalov also proposed stepping up cooperation between CIS members on global commodity markets, including grain markets, suggesting the CIS conclude an agreement on grain supplies.
