OREANDA-NEWS. March 17, 2010. OAO UAZ releases a new generation of the legendary 469 off-road vehicle.

The new, more practical vehicle is made for use in harsh off-road conditions. The 469 is based on the UAZ Hunter and boasts articulated axles, metal bumpers, a four-speed gearbox and a tailgate door. These time-proven features have made the vehicle even better at negotiating tough terrain and more practical to use. The vehicle’s geometry has been improved as well, in part due to expanded angles of approach and departure. Engine traction has been improved as well, thanks to shifting maximum engine torque (208/3000 Nm.) to lower gears. Fuel consumption has been reduced as well: the engine, with a 2.7 liter capacity, on average uses 10.6 liters of fuel for each 100 km travelled.

At the same time, the UAZ-469 model line has gained modern construction that makes it pleasant to drive, including front spring suspension, disc brakes, and hydraulic steering.

The vehicle will be released in two versions: with a canopy and with a metal roof.

The off-roader is aimed at private buyers far away from cities, who have to use their vehicles on bad roads, as well as lovers of the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. The UAZ-469 is also made for government organizations and law enforcement agencies, which must patrol and perform their duties off of the road system.

The UAZ-469 is named in honor of its legendary predecessor, from whom the vehicle has inherited its strongest points: unbeaten all-terrain capability, the reliability and simplicity of its construction, and the practicality and utility of a pure off-roader that has nothing superfluous in its design.

“The UAZ-469 will be a logical addition to our lineup of off-roaders,” said A.A. Karpov, manager of the OAO UAZ sales department. “The decision to update the manufacture of this model owes to the requests of our corporate buyers, who needed an economical vehicle truly capable of working in tough off-road weather conditions. None of the other vehicles on the market are technologically suited for this. As a result, we designed and now offer an off-road vehicle 23% cheaper than the existing products in the UAZ lineup, and one which is superior to the existing models as far as its off-road capabilities.”

Pricing for the new UAZ-469 starts at 299,000 rubles for a canopy-equipped model.

Production will start in the beginning of March, and UAZ dealers are already starting to take requests.

Consumers can find out about the product by calling the hotline at 8-800-100-00-42.

For reference:

The UAZ-469 is an off-road vehicle created at the request of the armed forces. The first UAZ-469 came off the production line on December 15, 1972. Over 30 years, more than 2,000,000 of them have been produced with various modifications.

In the 1970s, the UAZ-469 was exported to 70 countries – to all continents except for Australia. The UAZ-469 is renowned for its victories and accomplishments. In August 1974 it conquered the Mt. Elbrus region when it ascended to a height of 4,200 meters above sea level during high-altitude testing. The UAZ-469 is the only vehicle in the world to have completed such a dangerous route without backup assistance.

In 1975, the Ulyanovsk-made off-roader was first in its class of vehicles to take part in а race across the Sahara Desert, and triumphed over the Karakum in 1979. The UAZ-469 on multiple occasions brought victory to the crews who drove it on racing tracks. Beginning in 1965, athletes from the factory have regularly participated in all of the major car racing competitions and practically always emerge victorious.
