OREANDA-NEWS. March 31, 2010.  VTB Bank has become an official sponsor of Petr Konchalovsky exhibition and has financed an international academic conference on Paul Cezanne’s art.

“Petr Konchalovsky. The Evolution of the Russian Avant-garde” exhibition will be held in the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) on 27 March – 15 July and later in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).

The exhibition will present the best works of the artist from the collections of the two museums, as well as the most famous works from private collections. Pictures from the family collection, documents and personal belongings of the artist will be exhibited for the first time ever. The ogranizers expect that all these items will bring about a unique atmosphere in which not only Petr Konchalovsky’s paintings were made, but the directions of Russian fine art of the first half of the 20th century were formed and transformed.

The architectural design of the exhibition was developed by Jack Patterson, a young English architect. There is no “architecture for the sake of architecture” - the whole attention of the viewers should be focused on the artist’s works. Even seasoned Russian art professionals appreciated the project.

The opening of the exhibition coincides with the international science conference “Russia and the Global Cйzanne Effect, 1900-1950” to be held on 26-28 March in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library (St. Petersburg). The subject of the forum is development of the world painting in the first half of the 20th century, and Russia’s role in this process.

Conference reports will cover art of ten countries: Russia, France, England, Germany, Italy, the USA, India, China, Japan and Argentina. In total, the conference will attract about 300 participants This is an unprecedented event on this subject in terms of country representation and the number of invited guests.

Phillip Cйzanne, the great artist’s grandson, who is taking an active part in preserving his legacy, is expected to arrive at the conference.
