OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2010. Cargo turnover at the port of Arkhangelsk in January-March 2010 decreased by 18% as compared with the same period last year, to 586.200 tons.

This March, freight traffic via the seaport fell 17.5% from the last year’s March, to 238.000 tons.

The volume of inbound commodities rose by 32.5%, to 125.500 tons, outbound jumped 67.1% to 287.900 tons, while coastal traffic dropped by 61.5%, to 172.800 tons. Crude oil shipments declined by 87.3%, to 40.700 tons, as petroleum products volumes showed a threefold spike, 96.100 tons. Exported timber gained 42%, to 106.900 tons, pulp, cardboard and paper volumes fell 67%, to 12.100 tons. Transshipment of coal amounted to 71.200 tons.

Arkhangelsk, a year-round navigable seaport, is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. The Northern Sea Route freight traffic passes through the port’s terminals. Arkhangelsk Commercial Sea Port JSC is a diversified stevedoring company in the Port of Arkhangelsk, specializing in transshipment of general cargoes, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy-lift equipment and bulked cargoes. The total capacity of Arkhangelsk port allows handling up to 4.5 million tons of cargo a year. Last year’s throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk shrank by 30.58%, to 3.271.600 tons.
