OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2010. TNK-BP announces that Samotlorneftegaz, part of the Group, has accomplished 3D seismic survey at the Samotlor field, which covered a total of 900 km2. The interpretation of the obtained data enabled TNK-BP to discover and start development of seven new oil deposits adjacent to the main production area.

The new 3D seismic survey at the Samotlor field allowed for a detailed analysis of its geological structure. The seismic survey together with other technologies has helped to support a reserves replacement ratio in excess of 100% in the recent years.

“TNK-BP intends to complete the 3D seismic activity at Samotlor by the end of 2010 when TNK Nizhnevartovsk will have carried out the final part of the survey covering 250 km2. We can say now that it has significantly helped us to grow reserves at the field and keep our production levels at Samotlor broadly flat in the mid-term perspective,” said Francis Sommer, Executive Vice President, Technology, TNK-BP.

Note to editors:

Samotlor oil field is situated in the Nizhnevartovsk region of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District. The field’s in-place reserves are currently estimated at around 7.1 billion tons, of which over 3.5 billion tons are recoverable. The current recoverable reserves of Samotlor amount to 1 billion tons of oil. The field covers an area of 1 752 km2 and is developed by Samotlorneftegaz and TNK Nizhnevartovsk, both part of the Group. In 2009, the oil production on Samotlor reached 27.5 million tons. Detailed information about Samotlor.

TNK-BPis Russia’s third largest oil company, 50% owned by BP and 50% owned by the AAR Consortium (Alfa Group, Access Industries and Renova). TNK-BP also owns close to 50% of another Russian oil and gas company, Slavneft. TNK-BP accounts for approximately 16% of Russia’s production (including its share of Slavneft). SEC proved reserves (life of field basis) were 8.586 billion boe as of December 31, 2009.
