OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2010. The delegation of Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC arrived to Kaliningrad region within the frames of the corporate patriotic action “Train of Memory. From Konigsberg to Berlin”, timed to the assault of Konigsberg.

9 April 2010 is the 65-th anniversary of the assault of Konigsberg, which opened for the Soviet army the way to Berlin, to victory. 

The action is performed within the frames of “From Moscow to Berlin” project dedicated to the celebration of 65th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War (World War II).

The action brought together veterans of the Great Patriotic War of the Institute, members of the Leninskiy region organization of the All-Russian Society of the Disabled, pupils of Filimonkovskiy boarding school, senior pupils of general education school of Razvilka and members of Double Ton children’s dancing ensemble.

During the visit Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC delegation will take part in a number of memorial events dedicated to the assault of Konigsberg: participants will lay flowers at memorials of Kaliningrad, visit historic places of battles, have several meetings with participants of children’s patriotic clubs and veterans that took part in the assault of Konigsberg.

According to the Deputy General Director of Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC A.B. Alisov, such action is a unique opportunity for the project members to approach historic events that happened 65 yeas ago.

Reference. The assault of Konigsberg started on 6 April 1945. On 9 April German troops that defended Konigsberg surrendered. From 13 to 25 April remaining German forces left from East Prussian troops located at Zemplandskiy Peninsula were defeated by the Soviet Army. Over 25 German divisions were annihilated and 12 divisions lost from 20 to 75% of their members during East Prussian Offensive.
