OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2010. SOCAR vice president for environment Mukhtar Babayev says that already in May they are going to install plants operating on alternative sources of energy.

“Our Eco-Park will include both solar batteries and wind generators. To popularize this issue and make people to understand that gas as well as oil is not everlasting. People should realize that it is necessary to promote to alternative sources. They should feel that on themselves. They should touch   it and that is why in the Eco-Park we create for them such an opportunity to make people come and understand what is this, how it operates, for what time it is paid for itself, how much 1 kWh of power costs. First wind generators have overall capacity of 40 kWt – 4 generators by 10 kWt. Capacity of solar batteries will be 20 kWt,” Babayev said.

SOCAR also considers prospects of use of alternative energy on its offshore platforms.

“This program is being developed throughout the country. We launched the process. On the other hand everything will depend on economic expediency. We will consider how much power generation from associated gas we extract at offshore platforms and how much it will cost for us to install wind generators,” Babayev said.
