OREANDA-NEWS. April 22, 2010. The Belarusian economy has been developing with a positive trend, and no new loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are discussed, Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov told reporters.

“The positive trend observed in the first two months of the year was preserved in March, and we believe we will be able to meet the schedule of GDP growth according to our strategy,” the minister said.

He said the ministry was concerned over the rise in prices for construction and assembly operations.

“The main thing is that we have a positive trend. I guess it will remain in the second quarter owing to seasonal factors,” Snopkov said.

He said the Belarusian authorities were not discussing further borrowing from IMF, mostly because of the positive growth trends and plans to issue Eurobond in 2010.

“We need to be subtle with foreign borrowing. If we feel the economy is developing at a positive rate, we do not need to negotiate additional loans from international institutions, Snopkov said.
