OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2010. Mikhail Slobodin, President of IES-Holding, and Vyacheslav Gaizer, Governor of the Komi Republic, have agreed on realization of high-priority measures within the framework of the joint project "Vorkuta - Energy Efficient City". Presentation of the results of the first stage of the project - complex examination of energy and public utilities infrastructure performed by GiproKommunEnergo - took place in the city administration hall.

The Energy Efficient City project is supervised by a work group under the Presidential Commission for Modernization and Technological Development of the Russian Economy. The project's goal is to discover and carry out the energy saving potential in Russian municipalities.

It is planned to implement integrated programs of energy saving with the use of up-to-date methods and current technologies in the cities chosen as pilot sites. The most successful experience will be adopted by other municipalities.

Vorkuta was chosen by IES-Holding for implementation of the program because of a number of problems in terms of inefficient use of energy sources. The general contractor of the project is the energy efficiency technology center Giprokommunenergo specializing in development of public utilities energy efficiency improvement programs.

The integrated energy saving program in Vorkuta for 2010-2015 was developed by experts of Giprokommunenergo in cooperation with IES, the city administration and the Republican Energy Saving Foundation. It consists of 25 various activities aimed at improvement of energy efficiency, first of all, in public utilities, budget sector, with respect to energy generation. In particular, it is planned to re-adjust the heat supply system, upgrade worn-out equipment, mount intelligent metering devices, and optimize performance of TPP and boiler plants of the city. A promotion campaign with respect to energy saving and domestic energy efficiency for the citizens of Vorkuta will start in April for information support of the project.

According to initial estimates of Giprokommunenergo specialists, overall economic effect of the implementation of the integrated energy efficiency program in Vorkuta, subject to completion of target goals, may account for about RUR 500 million per year.
