OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2010. Roscosmos doesn’t see any reason to postpone the launch of new-generation satellite Glonass-K intended for Russian Global Navigation System GLONASS, Deputy Head of Roscosmos Anatoly Shilov.

According to Shilov, Roscosmos considers two launch opportunities for the satellite – either in a cluster with two Glonass-M’s by Proton, or alone on Soyuz- with the final decision to be made later on.

Russian launch plan for 2010 implies 7 Glonass’ to be lofted- one Glonass-K and 6 Glonass-M’s.

Shilov confirms high degree of launch readiness for Glonass-K, which has several advantages compare to its predecessor Glonass-M, including additional navigational signals, different unpressurized platform, extended life-time of 10 years.
