OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2010. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has approached to the construction of a refinery in Aliaga district (Izmir, Turkey) for Petkim Holding.

SOCAR reports that the regulator of energy market of Turkey gave 90-day term for preparation and submission of a basic report, a feasibility study, and a geological report on earthquake threat on the territory of refinery project for Petkim.

In this connection executive director of joint venture SOCAR-Turcas (owns 51% of Petkim’s shares) Kenan Yavuz claimed that permission of the regulator allows transfer to further moves on refinery construction.

He said that with refinery’s capacity of 7-10 million tons of oil a year it would be possible to create about 1,000 jobs.
