OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2010. Russia and Bangladesh have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of atomic energy for peaceful purposes. The document was signed on May 21st by Rosatom’s Director Sergey Kirienko and Yafesh Osman, Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Science, Information and Communication Technologies.

The agreement provides a framework for cooperation between the two countries in the field of construction and operation of different nuclear reactors, desalination plants and particle accelerators. It also covers cooperation in exploration and development of the uranium deposits, Russian nuclear waste transportation and radioactive waste management. In addition, the agreement stipulates that Rosatom will assist Bangladesh in creating of a national regulative body and training specialists in the field of nuclear physics and nuclear power industry.


To implement the agreement, Russia and Bangladesh are going to establish a joint coordinating committee. The agreement is valid for five years, but provides the option for its renewal every five years.
