OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2010. Cezary Grabarczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland and Co-Chairman of the Russian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, reported this to the journalists when summarized the results of the meeting which was held in Moscow.

“Russia invited Poland to take part in the construction of the Baltic Power Plant and then co-sell the energy to the European markets using the Poland capabilities of energy transportation,” said Cezary Grabarczyk. In his opinion, there is a prospect in integration of the electric networks of the two countries. The Minister also said that Russia offered its services for construction of power plants in Poland.

The construction of Baltic NPP started on Feb. 25th, 2010. The plant is being constructed in accordance with NPP-2006 project and will consist of two power units with total capacity of 2300 MW. The commission of the first power unit is planned for 2016, of the second unit — for 2018. For the first time private investors, including foreigners, have been invited to participate in the project. In BtNPP project they may get a share of up to 49%. On April 26th in Milan Inter RAO UES OJSC and ENEL Company signed a memorandum of cooperation in which the parties agreed to examine the possibility of participation of an Italian company in Baltic NPP construction project as a co-investor.
