OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2010. Public hearings were held in OJSC OGK-2 over the results of the Company’s environmental activity in 2009. Leaders of environmental services of OJSC OGK-2 and its subsidiaries and representatives of the World Wildlife Fund in Russia have participated in this event.

In 2009, OJSC OGK-2 has diminished pollutants emissions to the atmosphere by 23%, up to 277.5 thousand tons (359.8 thousand tons in 2008). Total reduction is generally due to diminishing of pollutants emissions at Troitskaya GRES (by 26%). Pollutants discharge into surface water bodies has diminished by 12% in 2009 and amounted to 1.9 thousand tons (2.1 thousand tons in 2008). 42.9% from total pollutants emissions to the atmosphere by all subsidiaries of the Company fall at the ash of coals burnt at Troitskaya GRES and Serovskaya GRES.

In 2010, OGK-2 plans investments amounted to 283 million rubles for environmental measures that is 14% in excess of those in 2009 (248 million rubles). The highest expenses for environment protection fall on Troitskaya GRES. The station uses high-ash coal of the Ekibastuz field, and just pollutants from coal area represent the basic amount of pollutants.

For stepped diminishing of adverse impact on the environment and achievement of maximal permissible emissions to the atmosphere, OGK-2 has designed Long-term Plan of Pollutants Emissions Reduction into Atmospheric Air agreed with the Government of Chelyabinsk District. Within the Plan, significant scope of repair, renovation and replacement works on gas treatment facilities was executed at Troitskaya GRES.

Following the results of hearings, World Wildlife Fund in Russia has positively evaluated the Company's activity in the area of environmental measures.
