OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2010. Chernobyl NPP according to the tendering procedure results signed a contract on construction of the new vent tube and related second stage systems of Chernobyl NPP (power unit No. 3 and the Shelter object) with Atomstroyexports CJSC and Ukrainian Ukrenergomontazh CJSC.

The contract is included into the international technical assistance program for transformation of the Shelter object into an environmentally safe system. International fund “Shelter” managed by EBRD finances the program.

According to Atomstroyexport, the new vent tube will have the form of a metal tower of more than 50 meters high equipped with a gas exhaust trunk of 6 meters in diameter and will be mounted on the existing concrete components of the main building of ChNPP second stage. Atomstroyexport plans to complete installation of the new vent tube up to the end of 2011. The Russian company as the leader of consortium “Stabilization” since 2004 has been implemented stabilization measures at the Shelter object, and since 2009 – improvement of fire security of the object.
