OREANDA-NEWS. July 22, 2010. One of the most prestigious international competitions in brewing, the International Beer Challenge, took place in London last week. Among the winners were three brews from exclusive "Baltika Select" series.

More than 300 brews from 170 countries participated in the International Beer Challenge. The judging process is rigorous two-stage blind taste test. Baltika №8 Wheat took the silver medal in the "Wheat Beers — Hefeweizen & Kristallweizen" category. Baltika №4 Original and Baltika № 6 Porter took bronze medals in the "Viennese Lagers" and "Imperial Russian Stout and Baltic Porter" categories, respectively.

The International Beer Challenge jury is composed of over 40 beer lovers and brewing experts, including journalists, wholesale purchasers, trade representatives, brewers, and beer marketing specialists. One of the jury members — Jeff Evans, one of the best known beer writers in the world, winner of numerous professional awards, and author of best-selling The Good Beer Guide and many other books and publications — has been a part of the International Beer Challenge from its inception.

The "Baltika Select" series of beer sorts is a selection of the best of the best in Baltika’s range. It includes all of Baltika’s award winners. These beers are brewed using unique technology. To date, "Baltika Select" sorts have won 80 prestigious Russian and international awards and are exported to more than 40 countries worldwide.

The annual International Beer Challenge competition takes place in Great Britain. At the 2007 International Beer Challenge, Baltika №4 Original was recognised as one of the World’s 50 Best Beers. The same sort took the gold medal in 2009 International Beer Challenge. The same year, Baltika №7 Export won the silver medal, and Baltika №6 Porter and Baltika №8 Wheat took third place.
