OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2010. India is interested in taking part in the privatization of the Belarusian state-run corporation Belaruskali, Ambassador of India to Belarus Ramesh Chander told a press conference.

“We see new opportunities after Belaruskali’s privatization has been declared. I would like to use the opportunity to officially declare India’s interest in taking part in the process,” said the ambassador.

He reminded that India is a major importer of Belarusian potash fertilizers. “We are interested in them because our economy heavily relies on agriculture,” said Ramesh Chander.

Prime-Tass reported earlier that the Belarusian government had included Belaruskali (Soligorsk, Minsk Oblast) into the privatization plan for 2008-2010. First Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko said that a package of Belaruskali shares worth USD 6-7 billion may be sold to an investor. In his words, the Belarusian government has no intention of selling the controlling or blocking interest.
