OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2010. China’s engineering corporation Camce plans to build a bleached sulfate production facility in Belarus, with the annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes.

The terms of the project were discussed at a meeting between Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky and President of the Chinese corporation Sinomach Ren Hongbin in Minsk on 9 September.

Camce is a subsidiary company of Sinomach.

The corporation has signed a contract to build a plant with Svetlogorsk pulp and cardboard plant. The document was signed in August this year. Mr. Ren Hongbin said that the project was formalized in a quick manner owing to joint efforts. “It is now being examined by China Eximbank,” Mr Ren Hongbin said. He also expressed the readiness to do everything possible for the project to be a success. Mr Ren Hongbin added that Camce has an extensive track record in this field. It has implemented projects in many countries including South-East and Central Asia, America, Africa.

In turn, Sergei Sidorsky noted that Belarus is interested in implementing this project jointly with the Chinese partners. Belarus is also looking forward to working with the investors in the woodworking industry. “I have asked that you were introduced to this industry, so that we could discuss the projects that can be implemented in Belarus,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that Belarus views China as a strategic partner. The dialogue between the countries has been actively developing at the level of the heads of state and government. “We address certain issues regarding the development of our economies,” said Sergei Sidorsky. “Belarus respects the decisions taken by the Chinese government as regards the investments in the Belarusian economy, and we are taking steps to increase the exposure of our products in China,” he added.

Sergei Sidorsky also said that members of the Belarusian government are now in China on a visit. The work is nearing completion with the China Eximbank regarding the projects which will soon be launched in Belarus.

Chinese National Mechanical Engineering Corporation Sinomach is one of the largest state-owned corporations in China. Today it is one of the leading developers and manufacturers of mechanical engineering equipment in China. The corporation implements projects on the general contract terms, provides services in municipal construction, telecommunications, metallurgy, shipbuilding and other industries. The corporation includes more than 50 subsidiaries. Last year Sinomach was ranked 28th in the list of 225 world’s largest contractors published by the Engineering News-Record, and 59th among China’s top 500 companies. In 2009, the corporation reported profits in excess of USD15 billion.

Camce has also expressed willingness to build a Belarusian port and terminal for re-gasification of liquefied natural gas in Lithuania and also to invest in the Belarusian-Chinese Tehno-Park.
