OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2010.Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sent his greetings to participants of the 54th session of the IAEA General Conference, which will be opened on Monday in Vienna International Centre.

It was said in the greeting letter that over the past decade, the project had suggested a variety of innovative approaches and methods in the field of nuclear energy technologies at national and international levels, and important decisions, related to legal support for nuclear energy infrastructure, including reactors of small and medium-power, had been developed. According to RF President all these things help countries to achieve the required performance in the national nuclear power engineering in terms of economics, safety, ecology, radioactive waste reduction and non-proliferation regime compliance. “Russia intends to continue to make its serious contribution to the project development.”

Here comes a new stage of its implementation. And we invite the IAEA Countries to make the best use of INPRO potential (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) for mastering of advanced technologies and strengthening of international cooperation in peaceful uses of atomic energy,” the document says.

The President expressed gratitude to IAEA General Director Yukiya Amano and the Agency Front Office for their continued and active support of INPRO.


The forum will be attended by representatives from more than 150 countries. The Russian delegation is lead by Head of Rosatom State Corporation, Sergey Kiriyenko.

The agenda of the conference, which will continue till September 24, includes the discussion of the IAEA report for 2009 and Agency activity programs for 2011. The forum participants will exchange their views on nuclear security strengthening, nuclear waste handling and protective measures against nuclear terrorism as well as outline the prospects of cooperation enhancing in the “atoms for peace” sphere. General Agency Director Yukiya Amano will open the ceremony. A scientific forum, called “Cancer in Developing Countries: Facing a Challenge,” will be held on September 21–22 within the framework of the event. It will engage leading international experts of radiotherapy.
