OREANDA-NEWS. September 24, 2010. The International Complex Emergency Response Exercise (CERE) engaging several governmental agencies, more than one thousand people and about a hundred of special machine units, including planes and helicopters will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at Smolensk NPP

The Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Smolensk region reports.

Russian and foreign observers, IAEA representatives from Armenia, Belorussia, Bulgaria, Germany, China, Korea, Romania, the USA, the Ukraine, France and Sweden as well as about 50 Russian and Belorussian journalists will come to Desnogorsk city to watch the exercise.

“The CERE is to train the readiness to act in case of a factitious technological and radiation emergency at the nuclear power plant; cooperation between engaged emergency response structures,” the report says.

The CERE-2010 scenario provides for various actions of emergency response teams: use of acoustical signals, movement of special machinery, armors, aircrafts and helicopters flying operations, in particular, aircraft delivery of the EMERCOM field hospital.

The helicopters will perform training flights from a site near Ekimovichi settlement, the aircrafts — from the airdrome of Zhukovka city of Bryansk region.

The EMERCOM notes that every year Rosenergoatom Concern holds complex emergency response exercises at one of Russian nuclear power plants. This year they are combined with exercises of Russian and Belorussian EMERCOM aimed at perfection of actions in case of natural disasters, in particular fires and earthquakes. The EMERCOM EMERCOM reports that Chief Military Expert of the EMERCOM of Russia, general-colonel Pavel Plat emphasized significance of this exercise since such interagency trainings contribute to perfection of interaction among various structures of ministries and governmental agencies divisions and the specialists’ skills necessary for NPP protection.

“It will help to act accurately and consistently and to prevent negative consequences“, the governmental agency notes.
