OREANDA-NEWS. September 29, 2010. Manager of Georgian State Energy System (GSE) Sulkhan Zumburidze and vice president of Azerbaijan’s Azerenerji Marlen Askerov have signed in Baku a memorandum on further development of electric power systems between Georgia and Azerbaijan with the purpose to create single energy bridge with Turkey.

GSE reports that speech is about Azerbaijan’s acceding to the project of construction of a 400 KV electric transmission line Akhaltsikhe-Borchkha to connect energy systems of Georgia and Turkey.

"The Azerbaijani side expressed its readiness to accede through this line to the regime of electricity transmission via a new corridor and in this connection to agree on schemes and regimes of power flows between Azerbaijan and Georgia,” GSE informed.

The Memorandum also says of restoration of electric transmission line-500 "Mukhran Valley" to ensure stability of flows of electricity between Azerbaijan and Georgia. Its rehabilitation will enable an opportunity to increase substantially export and import of electricity in both directions.

Within two weeks the Georgian side will provide for Azerbaijani colleagues all necessary technical and legal information for the restoration of ETL-500, and then within a month Azerenerji will start taking necessary measures on the territory of Azerbaijan. Prior to 1 January 2011 the Azerbaijani side will provide information to the Georgian party on terms of operations on its territory. In its turn, GSE promises to complete restoration of this power line in the territory of Georgia for 18 months after agreement signing.

On 8 April 2009 in Tbilisi Azerenerji, GSE and Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Energy Bridge.

In September 2009 GSE began a project of electric transmission line-500 between Georgia and Turkey. Currently flow of electricity between Georgia and Azerbaijan is carried out via transmission line-330 “Gardabani”.
