OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2010. The Government of Uzbekistan supports accession of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the head of the Department on assisting trade and investment of Poland Embassy in Tashkent Slawomir Strzalkowski said.

Slawomir Strzalkowski stated at the press conference in Tashkent that Poland is ready to assist Uzbekistan in the accession process to the WTO.

Uzbekistan started accession process to the WTO in 1994. Currently, the working group held several meetings on discussing terms of Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization.

Speaking about mutual trade turnover, Strzalkowski said that trade turnover between countries made up over USD 69.5 million in line with the Polish statistics. The growth rate made up 17% year-on-year. At the same time, the Polish exports made up USD 38.4 million and imports – USD 31.1 million.

It is worth to mention that the Uzbek exports to Poland grew 2 times year-on-year in the reporting period. He noted that products with high value cost. The export of mineral resources rose three times, chemical products – 2.8 times, and textile goods – 1.5 times.

Poland increased exports of supplies of transport machines, furniture, products from timber, mineral products, chemical products, cosmetics and others.

Strzalkowski underlined that the food products export from Poland and Uzbekistan increased. The share of food products in total volume of export made up 20%. At the same time, machinery and equipment, chemical products, oil-chemical goods, construction materials remain as leading positions of Poland’s exports.
