OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2010. Sibirtelecom will begin to provide services of Internet access with the help of the new GPON technology in the city of Chita, Zabaikalsky Krai.

Zabaikalsky Krai will become one more Siberian Region, where subscribers will get an opportunity to use advantages of GPON. The first subscribers to test the technology were those who live in Novosibirsk, Omsk and Krasnoyarsk, then in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Irkutsk, Tomsk and Barnaul.

 “Our company, while implementing the GPON project, sets new technological tendencies in Zabaikalsky Krai, which will make it possible to increase the quality of the provided services and to satisfy the growing demand for data transfer. We now offer our clients packages of services based on GPON – Internet at the speed of up to 1 Gb/s, which is dozens times higher than with the ADSL technology, state-of-the-art interactive TVist television and telephony,” – said Konstantin Motlyakh, Director of Zabaikalsky Branch of Sibirtelecom OJSC.

The pilot project in the city of Chita was launches at the following addresses: Butina St., houses 107, 109 and 115; 72 Zhuravlyova St., 38 Novobulvarnaya St., 50 Podgorbunsky St. By the end of this year, over 2330 Internet ports will be built in 36 houses using the GPON technology in Zabaikalsky Krai. In general, the installed capacity of GPON in Siberia exceeded 130 thousand ports. The volume of investments planned for the development of the GPON network in 2010 is 3.4 milliard rubles. This technology gains popularity among subscribers. For example, in Novosibirsk, which became a pilot site for launching the new technology of GPON Internet access, the number of users has already exceeded 5 thousand, and their total number in Siberia is over 15 thousand.
