OREANDA-NEWS. October 25, 2010. Donetsk has hosted an international seminar discussing the development of green business, where the SCM Group's businesses were presented as models of social responsibility.

The seminar held in Donetsk on 7-8 October was a follow-up to the June meeting in Frankfurt (Germany). The event was organized by GTZ, the Union of Black Sea and Caspian Confederation of Enterprises (UBCCE) and the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine. The principle goal of the seminar was in tune with its topic - developing strategy to support green business for Ukrainian business organizations. In turn, the decisions made at the seminar will be a part of the general plan to develop green technology in the countries of the Black Sea and Caspian basins.

Along with Ukrainian businesses and NGOs, over 40 guests from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Poland attended the seminar. SCM Director of International and Investor Relations Jock Mendoza-Wilson spoke at the meeting. He shared SCM's experience in developing green technologies and told the delegates about possible challenges related to the implementation.

"We've always told that a modern business should be socially responsible. Lowering impact on environment, energy efficiency and industrial safety are just a few elements of the responsibility," said Jock Mendoza-Wilson. "Today a growing number of Ukrainian businesses become aware of the importance and the need to implement CSR principles and standards, and I'm glad that the SCM Group is a landmark for many companies wishing to build green business.

The participants of the seminar visited Kurakhovskaya Thermal Power Plant that uses cutting-edge energy saving technologies. The visit proved that SCM is genuinely interested in "greening" the industry.
