OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2010. Belarus is expected to attract USD 5 billion in foreign direct investments (FDI) in 2010, the head of the investments department with the Economy Ministry, Sergei Trofimovich, told.

“We believe FDI will climb to at least USD 3.5 billion in January-September and about USD 5 billion in 2010,” Trofimovich said.

Gross investments in Belarus reached over USD 4.4 billion in January-June 2010, up 4.4% on the year. The total includes USD 2.6 billion in direct foreign investments, up 7.2%.

Investments in the transport sector amounted to USD 2.2 billion, in manufacturing USD 1 billion, in retail and public catering USD 689 million. Russia accounts for over two-thirds of all investments in Belarus, other large investors are the Netherlands and Austria.
