OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2010. Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, chaired a joint meeting in Moscow between the Transport Commission of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneur (RUIE) and the Forwarders Guild, a non-commercial partnership, Under discussion was the development of sea ports and container shipments, with the participation of enterprises providing different types of transport, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

In his capacity as head of the Transport Commission, Vladimir Yakunin said that the successful development of container transportation in Russia is necessary to consolidate the efforts of all participants in the transport chain: "It is necessary to form a through tariff rate, improve cooperation between the ports and railways and define the role of freight forwarders. Until that is done, all the talk of Russia’s transit potential is just that – empty talk."

During the meeting, the participants agreed on the need to establish a joint working group drawn from the RUIE Commission and the Forwarders Guild to provide legal support in the development of container transportation.
