OREANDA-NEWS. November 1, 2010. JSC FGC UES Branch – Backbone electric grids (MES) of South – has completed construction of cable power line 110 kV Poselkovaya – Rosa Khutor (Krasnodar Territory of Russia). Works were undertaken within the Federal target program “Development of the town of Sochi as the mountain climatic resort (2006-2014)”. The new power line is designed for power supply to the settlement of Krasnaya Polyana – the main site of the 2014 Olympic Games.

Power transmission line 110 kV Poselkovaya – Rosa Khutor with the length of about 5 km crosses the territory of Sochi national park. Due to cable version the unique flora and wildlife sanctuary environment was entirely preserved. The line route crosses two creeks – Rzhanoy and Bezymyanny.

Temporary for the period of construction the creeks were switched to new water courses and later returned to their former courses. Both circuits of the line are laid in special channels and run in one cut enabling facilitating the work and reducing cost of construction significantly.

Cable power lines with cross-linked polyethylene insulation have a number of advantages as compared to overhead transmission lines – they are more eco-friendly, safe and reliable in operation.

Till the end of 2010 five cable power lines 110 kV will be built in the area of the settlement of Krasnaya Polyana with total length of 27 km. They will provide for power supply to the 2014 Olympic Games facilities under construction including winter sports center, snowboard park, etc.

JSC FGC UES carries out construction and renovation of electric grid facilities for the 2014 Olympic Games power supply in accordance with timetable set forth by the International Olympic committee and the Federal target program “Development of the town of Sochi as the mountain climatic resort”. Totally during 2009-2014 FGC will construct, upgrade and renovate 21 backbone electric grid facilities on the territory of Sochi region.
