Today Rosatom and Qatar’s Ministry of Environment have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the peaceful of nuclear energy. On the part of Russia the memorandum was signed by Deputy General Director of Rosatom Nikolay Spassky, and on the part of Qatar— Qatar’s ambassador to Russia Ahmed Saif Al-Midadi.

Rosatom, signing of the memorandum was preceded by negotiations lasted during this year. The memorandum provides for “bilateral cooperation between Russian and Qatar that will cover such issues as development of the legal framework in the field of the nuclear power industry in the state of Qatar”.

According to Rosatom’s official representative, “apart from this, there will be fundamental and applied research, designing, construction and operation of nuclear power and research reactors“. “The two countries will also produce radioisotopes and use them in the industry, medicine and agriculture”, as explained by Rosatom. The memorandum also provides for cooperation in “ensuring nuclear safety, radiation protection and evaluation of the nuclear energy impact on the environment”, the Agency interlocutor explained.
Besides, Russia will supply nuclear materials to Qatar, and the Russian specialists will provide services related to nuclear fuel cycle and ensure education, training and professional development for nuclear power industry personnel in Qatar.
