OREANDA-NEWS. November 12, 2010. In November, all across Russia, sales of the new premium beer Old Bobby will begin. Old Bobby is brewed using traditional English pale ale malt, and will be available in two varieties: ale and lager. Old Bobby will be packaged in dark glass British pint bottles (0.568 litre) with a twist-off cap.

"Old Bobby is a beer brewed according to traditional English recipes. England is a country with a rich history of brewing, and British ales are known worldwide as an essential part of any good English pub", said Lyudmila Yakushina, Brand Director, Licensed Beers, Low-Alcohol Beverages & Non-beer Brands at Baltika Breweries. "Currently the only ales sold widely in Russia are expensive imported brands. Old Bobby Ale will be the first ale, brewed in Russia in the best of British traditions, and sold throughout the country."

The development process of Old Bobby sorts benefited from Carlsberg Group’s many years of international brewing experience. Carlsberg Group has been brewing ales in Leeds, England since 1822, and the company’s brewers demonstrate tremendous skill and knowledge when it comes to producing different varieties of beer. The cooperation on Old Bobby allowed to create a traditional British version of the ale and lager.

"We were happy to consult our Russian colleagues at every stage of the process", stated Dave Clark at the Carlsberg UK brewery (Leeds), "We consider our colleagues in Russia to be true professionals, and their results speak for themselves. I very much hope that lovers of good beer in Russia will appreciate the British accent of the two new brews."

The addition of pale ale malt brings out a mild noble flavour in Old Bobby Lager, inherent in traditional English brews. The beverage’s rich flavour is achieved using an unusual combination of rather rare varieties of hops.

A British version of the ale will also be available. Old Bobby Ale is a special beer, brewed using the top fermentation method with English pale ale malt. The malt is produced at high temperatures and has a slightly roasted malt aroma, perfectly suited to light ales. The top yeasts, which are traditionally used in British ales, yield the ale with fruit-like esters.

Old Bobby beer consumers are men aged 25—35 with an average, or above-average income. The recommended retail price is RUB 38.
