OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2010. The Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant, which is part of the steel segment of the Severstal Russian Steel Division, is to start deliveries of GMW standard rolled metal products for General Motors (GM).

The initial trial batch of 200 tons of galvanized and cold-rolled mill products grades CR2, CR3 and CR4 (GMW2 standard), will be delivered to ZАО GM Uzbekistan. The consignment will be used for stamping test components, including internal panels of doors, hoods and roofs. In the offing, the management of the Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant mulls expanding its GMW standard product line. In addition to galvanized rolled stock, cold-rolled carbon and high-resistance, galvanized two-phase grades will be shipped to GM Uzbekistan, as their first coils have already been produced by the Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant. The range of new grades depends solely on the automobile plant’s needs; most of those have already been produced on a test basis.

GMW standard rolled metal products will be delivered to all General Motors divisions. Steel grades that meet the new standards are made at the Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant under the customer centricity project in compliance with requirements of the automobile industry, with companies now switching over to integrated and unified platforms.
