OREANDA-NEWS. December 02, 2010. The economically active population of Moldova (employed population and the unemployed) in the III quarter of 2010 totaled 1,313.8 thousand people, down 12.9 thousand in comparison with the same period last year. According to data of the National Statistics Office, the correlation of the economically active men and women was practically equal: 51.2% - men, 48.8% - women.

The share of the active rural population exceeded the share of the active urban population – 53.7% and 46.3%, respectively. The number of the employed population totaled over 1,228.4 thousand people, down 22.1 thousand from the third quarter of 2009. The agrarian sector had 384.6 thousand people employed (31.3% of the total number of employed). About 843.9 thousand people were employed in the non-agricultural activity.

The share of people engaged in industry made up 12.1%, in construction – 7.2%. 49.4% of the total number of the employed population worked in the sector of services. 68.8% of the population was employed at enterprises of the private form of ownership, 25.6% - public form of ownership, 5.6% - mixed (public and private) and with foreign capital. 14.7% of the employed worked in the informal sector, and 33.7% had one informal job.
