OREANDA-NEWS. December 07, 2010. For the third time now Koks has been recognized as the winner of the Russia-wide contest, “Leader in Environmental Activity in Russia 2010”. The prestigious competition was held as part of the VI Russia-wide environmental conference, “New Priorities of National Environmental Policy in the Real Sector of the Economy”, which took place on 30 November at the State Kremlin Palace.

At the conference, matters related to successfully implementing new installations for boosting environmentally safe economic growth and improving the environmental aspect of human life. Main focus areas for implementing the Russian Federation's ecological policy for the period ending in 2030 were also examined. This is not the first time that Koks has confirmed its right to the leading position. The company was the winner of the main environmental competition in 2007 and 2009.

Koks managed to retain its leading spot this year as well. Thanks to the implementation of its environmental policy and its “Integrated Program for Boosting Sustainability and Decreasing the Negative Effects on the Environment of Koks for 2004-2010”, average emissions per tonne of coke have dropped to 1.2 kg, while the industry average for this figure remains at 5-6 kg. In addition to constant reduction of average emissions, the company is paying a great deal of attention to protecting water resources. Thus, in 2009 Koks halted all discharge of wastewater into the River Tom; the goal for 2011 is to fully cease discharge of water of any kind into municipal purification works.
