OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2010. As part of EuroChem’s RUB 310 million investment project, Kovdorsky GOK, one of the Group’s manufacturing companies, is preparing to commission the second stage of its cyclical-and-continuous overburden rock transportation system.

The project is intended to reduce the costs of mined ore, final products and utility vehicle turnover as the existing mine’s quarry deepens. The cyclical-and-continuous overburden rock transportation system, commissioned in 1999, now employs a combined vehicle and conveyor technology. Open-cut face vehicles serve as the first cyclical sector, while the second continuous-production sector of the technological chain uses conveyors to transport overburden rock from the quarry to the external dump.

The extension of the conveyor line by 662 meters will reduce utility vehicle turnover by 27 million  ton-kilometers per year and cut mining costs. The total length of Kovdorsky GOK’s open-cut cyclical-and-continuous overburden rock transportation system will reach 1,700 meters.

The system has no equal at this geographical latitude in Russia.
