OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2010. The Institute of Information Technology of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (AMEA) considers it necessary to develop further scientific computer network AzScienceNet.

At a session devoted to the results of Academy’s activities in 2010 Institute’s director Rasim Aliguliyev pointed out that currently within AzScienceNet Project being realized in accordance with the Azerbaijan National ICT Development Program for 2010-12 they are working on expansion of AzScienceNet infrastructure, creation of DATA-center, introduction of services GRID, Cloud Computing and Eduroam (Education Roaming), as well as organization of systems of video conferences and integration of AzScienceNet network into the global scientific network.

To ensure operational control and improve information security within AzScienceNet Project it was established a service of network monitoring and information security. AzScienceNet network is protected by centralized anti-spam and antivirus systems.

Currently AzScienceNet to which more than 2,000 computers have been connected is numbering 10,000 users.

AzScienceNet has a communication channel with bandwidth of 71 Mbit/s leased from the Internet backbone in Azerbaijan, company Delta Telecom.

Until 2012, within the project it is planned to create a network of logistical base and internal corporate infrastructure of scientific institutions with access to the Internet.
