OREANDA-NEWS. January 5, 2011. RUSNANO has executed its first investment in a project that will mass produce detectors of explosives and narcotics. Labeled neutrons are employed in the technology of the detectors. The first tranche released for owners’ equity of Neutron Technologies, the company founded to realize the project, was 50 million rubles.

Neutron Technologies will produce various types of detectors based on labeled neutrons: cargo container inspection systems, stationary systems for scrutinizing automobiles and baggage, and portable detectors.

“The products that will be manufactured within this project are truly unique. Our detectors identify more than 40 different kinds of explosives, narcotics, and highly toxic substances. The detectors have been designed for work in the field, in subways, at train stations and in airports, and for inspecting sea-bound containers and cargo-carrying vehicles,” explained Mikhail Sapozhnikov, CEO of Neutron Technologies.

“I would like to emphasize that the project is a landmark in steps to assure the safety of Russia’s citizens. The products that Neutron Technologies will produce are significantly less expensive and more effective by numerous measures than current imports. Production can be expanded when we see large orders from governmental structures and private business,” remarked RUSNANO Managing Director Georgy Kolpachev.
