OREANDA-NEWS. January 13, 2011. Laanemaa county is now fully covered with fast EMT 3.5G network. EMT 3.5G is the only fast mobile network that covers the whole county and makes fast and favorable mobile internet and all 3.5G services available to all people living in Laanemaa.

According to Tonu Grunberg, member of the management board of EMT, homes and small offices will be primary users of the new internet solution. EMT uses.

900 Mhz frequency band for building 3.5G network in Laanemaa and other counties. 21000 Mhz band is used in cities which are more densely populated.

EMT 3.5G enables download speeds up to 21.6 Mbit/s and upload speeds up to 5.76, provided that mobile phone or modem supports those speeds.

 “3.5G network that covers the whole county of Laanemaa was opened already on December 30th, but today (2011-01-06) the maximum speed of the network was raised to 21.6 Mbit/s”, said Grunberg. “Actual speeds depend on network load and user’s distance from the base station, but first tests show that actual speeds are excellent in Laanemaa”. EMT invested 555,000 euros in building 3.5G network in Laanemaa. In addition to higher speeds, improvements of 3.5G network enhance calling quality as well.

EMT has the widest mobile internet coverage area in Estonia and it broadens each week. EMT was also the first to open first high-speed 4G network in Estonia in December 2010. Currently, 4G is available in Tallinn city center and in the surrounding areas of IT College / Tallinn University of Technology, in Tartu city center and also in Kohila.
