OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2011. RusHydro JSC and Power Machines company signed a supplementary agreement to the contract on  manufacturing and supply of equipment for Zhigulyovskaya HPP’s hydraulic units (station nos. 16, 20, 8, 7, and 18).

Within the frames of this supplementary agreement, Power Machines company is to design, manufacture and supply five new turbines rated at 129 MW each (in addition to the nine turbines being shipped under the contract that had been concluded earlier) as well as the equipment destined to partially replace main units of the existing hydraulic generators. In addition, Power Machines’ specialists will provide installation supervision services and participate in commissioning activities to put the equipment into commercial operation. The equipment delivery and the fulfilment of works envisioned according the supplementary agreement should be  completed before December 31, 2016.  

The installation of the new turbines allows to increase nominal output of each hydraulic unit by 10.5 MW at a rated head(from 115 MW up to 125.5 MW).  When the Zhigulyovskaya HPP’s fourteen hydraulic units are upgraded, the plant’s total capacity shall grow by 147 MW.

The basic conditions of the supplementary agreement were approved by RusHydro’s Board of Directors on December 8, 2010. RusHydro JSC and Power Machines company have previously signed a contract to manufacture and supply equipment for the Zhigulyovskaya HPP’s nine hydraulic units modernization .This contract aims to promote the implementation of Zhigulyovskaya HPP’s mid-term upgrade and retool program for 2011–2015 that implies overhaul pace acceleration. Having concluded this supplementary agreement, Power Machines and RusHydro continue their successful cooperation and contribute to the development of the national hydropower industry. Other current projects that involve joint efforts by hydropower specialists and power engineers include repair operations at Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, as well as a number of other projects, and namely: construction activities at Boguchanskaya HPP and Zagorskaya PSPP-2, turnkey renovation of Volzhskaya HPP’s four hydraulic units, and a project to upgrade Saratovskaya HPP’s two hydraulic units.
