OREANDA-NEWS. February 16, 2011. Moldova and Romania have extended cooperation in the framework of the program of gratuitous financial support to Moldova in the amount of 100 million euros. It is stipulated by the additional protocol to the inter-governmental agreement with Romania on implementation of the program of technical and financial support on the basis of the gratuitous financial assistance in the amount of 100 million euros provided by Romania to Moldova ratified by the Parliament on Friday.

As it was reported earlier, Romania undertook to allocate a EUR 100 million grant to Moldova within 4 years under the inter-governmental agreement signed between Chisinau and Bucharest in 2010. These funds are meant for implementation of infrastructure projects in the sector of transport and education.

Later, after the floods happened in Moldova last summer, the Romanian government extended the agreement’s terms and stipulated provision of the humanitarian aid as well. As the first part of the grant assistance, Romania provided necessary building materials to Moldova for construction of new houses for those who had their houses damaged by the floods. Taking into consideration this fact, the agreement provides for a new area of cooperation – “the humanitarian aid in case of emergencies”.
