OREANDA-NEWS. February 22, 2011. Azerbaijan Parliament has started today the discussion of new Customs Code project at the plenary meetings. Today the deputies have adopted the Code project in the first reading.

Under the plan the New Customs Code must come into force from 1 July 2011, that is it must undergo all the procedure of adoption in the Parliament at the current session.

The Code contains no specific rates of customs duties, excise taxes and tariffs , it only improves basic principles of the customs system . In particular, according to the project the shelf life of goods  in customs warehouses is extended up to 3 years in Azerbaijan.

The draft also includes clauses regulating crossing of customs border of the country by goods for/ from free economic areas. In any case they pass execution in the country’s customs bodies.

Yesterday the Parliament of Azerbaijan was planning the first reading of the draft but has not informed on its results yet.
