OREANDA-NEWS. March 4, 2011. On March 2-4 the First Finnish-Russian Forest Forum for leaders is held in Helsinki. Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov is taking part in it.

The purpose of the forum held upon an initiative of the Prime Minister of Finland Mari Kiviniemi is to advance interest of representatives of the authority and everyone capable to influence solution of questions related to forestry development in establishing contacts between forest branches of both countries.

Participants of the forum will get acquainted with the condition of modern timber industry including some specific examples. They will visit a paper-mill, a logging site and timber works.

Among the speakers at the forum there are heads and experts of the Forest Society of Finland, research institutes, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland.

It is supposed that in 2011 Finland will host three forums of this sort. Their purpose will be joint search for solutions concerning increase of competitiveness of timber complex of northern regions, assistance to formation of Russia's and Finland's uniform point of view on effective and steady development of northern forest.
