OREANDA-NEWS. March 9, 2011. Over 5 years, United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has invested 5 billion rubles in the social development of the Vyksa District where its two large entities—Vyksa Steel Works and Casting and Rolling Complex—are based. Specifically, the money was allocated to rehabilitate social facilities in Vyksa—a culture center for metallurgists, the Metallurgist recreation center—build the Batashev Hotel, and rehabilitate the Batashev House Museum. This was reported by OMK Director for Public Relations Aleksandr Kastravets at the presentation of OMK's new advertising concept, aimed at showing the scope of changes that took place in the Vyksa District over 5 years and the role played by OMK in those changes.

Over 5 years, OMK invested a total of 110 billion rubles in the development of its industrial facilities based in the Vyksa District. Owing to this, 8,300 temporary and permanent jobs were created in the Vyksa District in this period. In addition, 40 billion rubles of tax contributions were made to budgets of all levels over the 5-year period. "This large-scale investment is a guarantee that the products manufactured by the OMK entities will be competitive and in demand, which means that tax contributions to budgets of all levels would only grow," emphasized Mr. Kastravets. "We wish the activities by all of the government branches would become equally efficient. In this context, the referendum to be held on March 13 regarding uniting Vyksa and the Vyksa District into a single urban district will be a step of crucial importance."

According to the head of the Vyksa District Administration Konstantin Kaddo, the municipal unit won the Investor 2010 Regional Contest in the Investment-Friendly District nomination. "This to a large extent was made possible owing to the efforts made by United Metallurgical Company and its development strategy. We plan to adopt OMK's experience and suggest that a prototype of a large company be created by uniting the district's eight locations into a single district and forming a single site, power vertical, and budget to implement a transparent policy related to large investors," emphasized Mr. Kaddo.

At the OMK presentation, Governor of the Nizhni Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev said that the unification of the Vyksa District and the city of Vyksa into an urban district would promote efficient work by the authorities and efficient distribution of budgeting funds. "When the Vyksa District has a single budget, problems will be solved in a more expeditious and qualitative manner," emphasized the Governor.
