OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2011. Trade flows passing through Archangelsk port in January-February 2011 totaled 466,200 tons, a 34.2-percent increase year-over-year. The volume of exports in the reporting period amounted to 271,500 tons, imports – 95,700 tons, short sea traffic volume – 99,000 tons.

The two-month cargo volume includes 347,200 tons of dry cargo, 68,600 tons of grab cargo (58,500 tons of exported coal and 10,100 tons of imported ore). The volume of timber cargo handled in Jan-Feb, 2011 totaled 67,200 tons, general cargo -168,100 tons, including 107,400 tons of ferrous metals, 17,500 tons of non-ferrous metals, 8,500 tons of scrap metal, 20,600 tons of break bulk cargoes and 119,000 tons of exported petroleum products.
 
The year-round navigable Port of Arkhangelsk seaport is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. Cargoes transported via the Northern Sea Route are passing through the port’s terminals. The stevedore companies operating at the port handle a broad range cargo: general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers and heavy-lift cargo, suction and grab cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port capacity allows handling up to 4,5 million tons a year. Throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk in 2010 increased by 30.1% y-o-y to 4,5 million tons.
