OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2011. In March 2011, the number of N.W.Telecom subscribers in St. Petersburg using communication services based on PON (passive optical network) exceeded 100,000. Of these, over 35,000 selected package offers including several services: “Avangard Duo+” (New Telephony + MegaAvangard), or “Avangard Trio+” (New Telephony + Mega-Avangard + Avangard TV).

JSC North-West Telecom, which is to become North-West Macroregional Branch of JSC Rostelecom in April, considers the PON technology as an optimal solution to satisfy the customers’ growing needs for up-to-date high-speed telecommunication services, and as an economically sound approach to systematic modernization of its own communication network generated on the basis of a copper infrastructure.

Connection to the PON optical network offers the customers an access to communication services that have such advantages over the traditional ones as higher quality and extra free services. For instance, it is a high (up to 100 Mb/s) speed of access to the Internet, ability to view TV channels in the HD mode, additional functions of a digital telephone (storage of the telephone number in case of moving to another place, caller identification, call redirection etc.)

OAO NWT uses the PON technology to provide services also in Kaliningrad Oblast ( see the press release of 13.11.09 ). Quite soon, a few more Company branches will start providing services based on the new technology.

Detailed information on the N.W.Telecom services based on the PON technology may be found on the official Internet website of the Petersburg United Branch at www.ptn.ru , on the product websites http :// www . avangard - dsl . ru / ru / mega and www.avangard-tv.ru , and by calling 8-118-00 (free call).
