OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2011. Petrozavodskmash has successfully completed hydro-testing of the second emergency cooling system capacity of the reactor core.

Emergency cooling system capacity of the reactor core is thick-walled 90 millimeters vessel made of two-layer plated steel with diameter of 3175 mm and 60 cubic meters volume, operating under pressure of 60 atmospheres and above. It has inside a tubular electric heating unit intended to keep the temperature 20 degrees and above. Completely with the system capacity mounting hardware is delivered too. Product weight is more than 75 tons.

According to the contracts signed with JSC "AEM-Technologies", this year JSC "Petrozavodskmash" will produce eight cooling system capacities, four of which will go to the first unit of the Novovoronezh NPP, four — to the Leningrad NPP. There is an additional agreement to be signed concerning four cooling system capacities for the Novovoronezh NPP-2 with the time of delivery to the customer in 2012–2013.

There were various questions while manufacturing the first cooling system capacity in autumn 2010, as it always happens at the organization of new production manufacture. They were related to the preparation, organization of the production process and the product testing at the final stage.

These difficulties were not critical for the factory workers. The “Petrozavodskmash” has big experience in manufacturing of capacitor equipment for the petrochemical industry. The main difference is that the manufacture of emergency cooling system capacity of the reactor core requires compliance with more strict requirements of Rostechnadzor, i.e. additional certification of welders and technological processes, accurate execution of the documentation.

The factory workers successfully have coped with the tasks. For the time being, four cooling system capacities are assembled completely, two of them have passed hydro-testing. Two more capacities are in the groundwork, i.e. at the stage of mechanical treatment.
