OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. From ancient times water in the desert is valued worth its weight in gold. This is evidenced by legends and real facts from the life of native inhabitants of these sandy dry expanses. Over many centuries the Turkmen people have been maintaining and handed over their reverence to the priceless gift of nature from generation to generation by preserving and enriching it in the native land. Nowadays, the ancestors’ precepts are embodied in construction of artificial lakes, rivers, state-of-the-art drinking water plants, underground wells and other grandiose infrastructure and hydraulic facilities throughout the country.

The General Programme on improvement of pure drinking water supply to settlements of Turkmenistan has placed the ongoing activities on the water industry on a greater scale. To achieve the goals set forth in the Programme the large-scale project on reconstruction and construction of new water supply and sewerage networks in Turkmenbashi town and the Avaza national tourism zone are under completion.

The general contractor of the project, which will enable to significantly improve water supply to the seaside resort, is the Turkmenbashi Khyakimlik. The project is implemented by the Polimeks Company.

The new water supply system in the town includes over 50 facilities with autonomous turnaround, 15 pumping stations with the capacity of 6,200-12,000 cubic metres a day each, drinking water storage reservoirs with the capacity of 37,000 cubic metres, water treatment facilities, chemical laboratories, maintenance shops, control stations, administrative buildings, industrial and other facilities. As of April 1, over 334,000 running meters of water supply pipelines have been laid.

After the new high-powered water treatment facility is put into operation, it will be able to treat the whole amount of drinking water produced by the desalination unit with the annual capacity of 11.9 million cubic metres in Avaza. In the mid-term this amount of water will be sufficient to ensure uninterrupted supply citizens and guests of the town with pure drinking water and transform it into a green oasis on the Caspian Sea coast.

The implementation of the ambitious social project in the seaside resort will serve as a new factor for guaranteeing the high standards of life to citizens of the town and speeding up social and economic development.
