OREANDA-NEWS. April 12, 2011. Cargo throughput of the Port of Tallinn (Estonia) in January-March 2011 increased by 8.6% from the figures of Q1, 2010, to 9,207,100 tons. Container traffic during the reporting period rose 21.9% to 44,316 TEUs, the Port Authority statistics said.

The three-month volume of liquid bulk handled at the port rose as much as 22.5% to about 7 million tons, while bulk cargo volume shrank by 50.6 percent to 732,700 tons. Handling of rolling cargo increased by 10.8% to 895,200.

There were 1.702 calls in Jan-Mar. at the port (including passenger ships arrivals), 6.8% more than a year earlier.

Port of Tallinn (AS Tallinna Sadam) ranks third among largest seaport, of the Baltic Sea, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk. Tallina Sadam comprises five harbors: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2010, Port of Tallinn’s cargo volume totaled 36.65 million tons.
