OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2011. Actively providing its services not only in Latvia but also across the Baltics, Latvenergo AS has gained a considerable number of new corporate (free market) customers. The total number of Latvenergo’s market customers currently stands at 1231 in Latvia, 578 in Lithuania and 45 market participants in Estonia.

During the past month, Latvenergo AS has gained eleven new market customers in Latvia, twenty in Lithuania and four in Estonia. These companies have decided to switch from their former electricity traders based on the choices provided by the free market. The total amount of electricity consumed by these new customers is about 82 GWh. At the same time, according to free market trends, some customers have moved in the other direction, with a number of Latvenergo’s partners deciding to try out the services offered by competitors in the electricity trading industry. The total amount consumed by such customers who have decided to leave Latvenergo AS equals about 20 GWh.

Latvenergo AS, with its leading position on the Latvian electricity market, strives to always increase the number of its customers in Latvia and in the Baltics. Marking the free market coming to life, more and more customers in Latvia as well as in the Baltics in general have already expressed their desire to try out the services provided by various electricity traders. Thus, various offers can be tested in practice, which shows that a trend consistent with the free market situation in the electricity trading sector – constant customer drift, while the share of the market owned by various traders remains stable – has begun to manifest itself.

These trends clearly show that a free market situation now exists in electricity trading, allowing customers to migrate among service providers and select the supplier most suitable to their needs – in terms of services as well as pricing. The current market situation makes Latvenergo constantly think about how to expand the range of its services and improve its customer service, which form the basis for development and rising standards of quality.

Latvenergo AS is the largest electricity producer and trader in Latvia, not only supplying electricity to the regulated market customers, i.e. households and associated users (minor legal entities), but also successfully cooperating with those market customers, who purchase electricity at an agreed price. Overall, the Latvian power company has acquired 30% of the Baltic market, also actively expanding electricity trade abroad, with the total customer base already exceeding one million.
