OREANDA-NEWS. April 19, 2011. As a result of the voluntary cleaning initiative of the head office staff of Oranta held on March 25-26, 1,630 kilograms of waste paper were collected for the recycling purposes. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), processing one ton of recycled paper saves approximately 15 mature trees from cutting down. It also saves 20,000 gallons of water and 1000 kWh of electricity. Thus, as a result of the initiative Oranta’s employees helped to save of about 20 trees.

"Every day a huge amount of waste paper is being released from the offices and homes across the Ukraine, which equals to the thousands of trees, hundreds of cubic meters of water, thousands of kilowatts of electricity. If handled properly, and some small efforts made by each of us, this paper can be recycled. This is a step towards forest conservation and resource recovery. In this matter, no steps can be considered small, and every single effort is extremely important", - commented on the results of this environmental initiative the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Oranta, Mr. Oleg Spilka.

The collection of waste paper within Oranta is organized with the help of special “green” containers. All paper trash including old notebooks, cartons, packing materials, used newspapers and magazines, promotional products, office paper, etc., are exported for recycling in the framework of the waste reduction program "Club A4”, joined by Oranta in July 2010.

The program is implemented in partnership with the national environmental campaign "Go Green", initiated by the UN Office in Ukraine within the network of the Global Compact. The program is aimed at practical implementation of the green office concept, namely, promoting more efficient use of paper resources and assistance in organizing the collection, sorting and recycling of waste paper generated by the office.

Oranta has a long history of resource conservation. Even in Soviet times, a company at the time - Ukrgosstrah, led propaganda among its staff regarding saving the energy, heat and water. In 2004, with the advent of the new management, the Company focused on the compliance with the international business practices and the strategic approach to resource conservation and environmental responsibility. Since then Oranta’s offices had been refurbished with the help of modern energy-saving technologies. In 2008, in connection with signing the UN Global Compact, Oranta introduced "Green Office" as a program and continually adds to it with the new practices.
